ESTABLISHING  A NEW INTERNAL DRAINAGE BOARD – SOUTH CUMBRIA

INITIAL FEASIBILITY REPORT and CONSULTATION MEETINGS

The South Cumbria Water Level Management Group (SCWLMG) and the Environment Agency would like to invite you to a consultation meeting to discuss proposals to form  a new Internal Drainage Board in South Cumbria.  There will be two meetings on:

Friday 25th Nov -  Gilpin Inn, Lyth Valley
Friday 2nd Dec - High Cross Inn, Broughton-in-Furness

The meetings will be drop-ins running between 4pm and 7.30 pm.
Please come along at a date and time that is convenient.

If you are unable to attend either of these meetings, but would like to discuss the proposals with the SCWLMG, please contact the group’s secretary , Judith Park on 015395 61239.

An e-consultation is currently underway on the feasibility report, which can be found on the Environment Agency’s website. If you do not have access to the internet, please contact Debbie Peppert  at the Environment Agency 01772714008 for further information.

SOUTH CUMBRIA WATER LEVEL MANAGEMENT GROUP (SCWLMG).
formerly The Lyth & Winster Valley Drainage Group).

Many of you will be aware by now that the Environmental Agency (EA), who operate the drainage pumps in the Lyth & Winster Valleys as well as maintaining the drainage channel, have stated that it is their intention to shut down the pumps and withdraw from the maintenance of the feeder drainage channels into the rivers by January 2013.

A First Phase Electronic Consultation process has now been started with effect from November 7th for a period of six weeks up to December 19th. We urge everyone to go onto the EA website (https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/portal/ho/flood/new/idbs) to read the information available here and to respond to a Questionnaire on this site.

For those who do not have access to a computer hard copies of this information can be obtained from either the EA on 03708 506 506 or by contacting our secretary Judith Park on 015395  61239.

“Drop in Meetings” (4pm to 8pm) have been arranged by the EA as follows:

Friday November 25th  at the Gilpin Bridge Inn Levens
Friday December 2nd at High Cross Inn Broughton-in-Furness.

Public Meetings:-

Wednesday December 7th: 7.30pm at Crosthwaite Memorial Hall with representatives from the EA, the SCWLMG and the Bio-Diversty Group.
