SPRING FAIR
 We celebrated
Spring sunshine with a plant sale and craft fair. Margaret arrived with her usual fantastic
array of spring and summer bedding plants and shrubs. Vicky returned with her beautiful jewellery
and we were pleased to welcome Lizzie with a table full of kitchen and garden gifts, ranging
from hand painted plant pots to memo boards, all beautifully crafted.
Steve, the photographer was there to take our photo for the article you may have seen, in
the South Lakeland Messenger. The following week Ken came with his pens and woodcraft.
We look forward to seeing them on November 11th. You can buy some Christmas presents from
them, then.

MONEY!!!
Hopefully you will have noticed that our prices have remained very much the same for the last 3 years! Well we may have to make some changes, but we think you will agree that the Exchange fare is good value for money.
This year we have donated £100 to Christian Aid and £500 to the Village Hall.

THE NHS and the EXCHANGE
Following a very successful Conference on Healthy Sustainable Communities, run by The South Lakeland NHS LSP (Local Service Provider!) in June 2008, we have become a role model for other communities in South Lakeland and Eden. The NHS in conjunction with ACT ( the new name for Voluntary Action Cumbria) are going to fund new Exchanges. Our blueprint for “making and baking” an Exchange will help other communities to set up their own Exchanges, to suit their own needs.

HEALTHY LIVING
On the 10th June we were delighted to welcome Janet Dawson, a Community Nurse. She will be returning on 9th September and wants to know what Health Topics we would like her to bring information on. Let us know. She thinks that links with local communities, such as ours, could help to spread their healthy lifestyle message.

ENTERPRISING BRITAIN
Our entry in this competition proved to be a mistake! However the organisers were so impressed with our entry form and the whole idea of the Exchange that David Chapman came to see how we operated. He must have been delighted to be serenaded by Crosthwaite school children’s ocarina group who came to play for us all!
