We Won!
Crosthwaite was named as Winner of the 2009 Cumbria Calor Village of the Year Competition. The judges felt that we scored well in all categories and were impressed by what they saw as a strong, self assured community.
We were also winner of the Sustainability Category with a ‘first class vision of the ways ahead’ and the Communications Category with ‘considered and comprehensive communications’.
The judges also made the following comments:
‘Strong, cohesive, prosperous area’... ‘The Exchange is impressive and shows they are a resilient and participative community.’
‘Strong evidence of what is in the Parish being appreciated and supported across all age groups.’
‘Very strong evidence of the community pulling together and looking for solutions for their own issues’.
‘First class vision of ways ahead - notably solutions to local housing need.’
‘Interesting how they have embraced the nature reserve as part of village life. It appears much thought goes into not just doing but into educating and informing.
Excellent range of facilities and depth of information, from a first class website to a whole range of ways of linking groups, interests and age ranges’.
Members of the team, pictured below, attended the Cumbrian awards presentation in Kirkby Stephen and received a plaque and framed certificate.
The Next Stage
As winner of the county competition, Crosthwaite was nominated as Cumbria’s entry into the North West Region Village of the Year competition.
The National judges visited us on 29th September. We did not win the Regional Village of the Year but Crosthwaite did win the Community and Business Category Awards for the North region.
