At the meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth held at the Punch Bowl Inn in Crosthwaite - aforesaid on Monday the 23rd day of November 1857 at one o'clock in the afternoon of the same day pursuant to a notice or summons duly served upon all the said Proprietors of which the following is a copy.

I am requested to give you Notice, that a public meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held at the Punch Bowl Inn in Crosthwaite aforesaid on Monday the 23rd day of November at one o'clock in the afternoon, for the following purposes. -

1st To determine upon the propriety of Leasing for one year the Potage and Depasturage of, and also all the Surplus Rock and Limestone, within certain Allotments set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within Crosthwaite and Lyth aforesaid, over and above what may then be deemed sufficient for the use and consumption of the same Proprietors.

2nd If the meeting should determine so to dispose of the Potage and depasturage and also of the surplus Rock and Limestone of and in the same allotments, then to receive proposals from and enter into a contract with any person or persons willing to become such Lessee or Lessees.

1st Resolved that the Revd John Dixon be and he is hereby appointed Chairman of this Meeting. -
2nd Resolved that Pottage and Depasturage and the straw growing thereon also the surplus Rock, limestone, Gravel, Sand and other Material together with the Cottage within certain Allotments numbered 649a 655 and 666a set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within Crosthwaite and Lyth aforesaid over and above what may from time to time be required and be sufficient for the use and consumption of the same Proprietors be leased for one year.
3rd Resolved that William Bownas of Bowness Windermere be , and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or taker of the said Potage and Depasturage including the nuts growing upon the Allotment 666a containing 526 acres be the same more or less at the rent of thirty eight pounds and two shillings for the term of one year to be computed from the 25th day of April 1858 such rent to be due upon entry and to be paid to John Wakefield Esq at the Bank of Messrs Wakefield Crewdson and Co Kendal, the Proprietors reserving to themselves the liberty to enclose upon any part of the said Allotment any Quantity of Land they may think proper not exceeding six acres, and also reserving to themselves, and also to the tenant or tenants of the Scar or Stone Quarries the liberty to take and carry away any Stones without being subject to damages for so doing - the tenant shall not cut down or destroy any wood growing upon any part of the said Allotment.
4th Resolved William Shaw of Raven Lodge be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or taker of the Potage, Depasturage and Nuts, also the surplus Stone, Gravel, Sand and other Materials in the Allotment no 649a situated upon Whitbarrow, set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments as aforesaid for the term of one year at the rent of fifteen shillings to be computed from the 25th day of April 1858 such that to be paid to John Wakefield Esq at the Bank of Wakefield, Crewdson and Co Kendal.
5th Resolved that all present tenants shall remove all stones required for building purposes from out of the several quarries on or before the 7th day of December next.
6th It is further resolved that Wm Garnett shall receive tenders from and is authorized to treat with persons desirous of becoming the tenant of the Cottage House and Garden and also the tenant of working the Quarries.

Was then let in accordance with Resolution No 6 to John Wood and Robert Martindale both of Lyth the surplus Rock and Limestone in the allotment No 666A situated upon Whitbarrow for the term of one year to be computed from the 22nd day of November last at and for the rent of fifteen pounds to be paid quarterly at the Bank of Wakefield, Crewdson and Co to the credit of John Wakefield Esq and for each and every Powder Runner or Bed Plate delivered to any person who may require the same and which shall not be used within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth the Tenant shall pay the sum of Three Guineas in addition to the yearly rent and for each and every Powder Runner or Bed Plate required as above stated by any Person who may wish to get, quarry and dress the same, the tenant shall not charge a greater sum than one pound in addition to the increased rent of three Guineas such sum to be due upon demand.

The tenant shall at all times permit and suffer the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments for the time being within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth to get, quarry, remove and take away all such stone and materials as they may require for any of the purposes stated and set forth in the Heversham Award before referred to, and also when required to do to deliver to any of the Landowners within the said Township, the same to be used within the Township the following stones at the following prices, that is to say, Quoins three feet long, after the rate of nine pence per yard perpendicular measure, Quoins from one foot six inches to three feet long after the rate of seven pence halfpenny, per yard perpendicular measure. Lintels from four to five feet long fifteen inches wide 3 per lineal foot. Lintels from five and a half feet upwards and seventeen inches wide four pence per lineal foot. Gate stoops 2/6 each and Flags 0/2 per square foot.

February 8th 1858 was then let (in accordance with Resolution No 6) to James Strickland Junr the Cottage House, Garden and Nutwood thereto belonging, in the Allotment No 666 is situated upon Whitbarrow for the term of one year to be computed from the 12th day of May next at and for the rent of six pounds to be paid to the Bank of Wakefield, Crewdson and Co to the Credit of John Wakefield Esq the rent to be due on entry.

At a meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, of Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth held at the Punch Bowl Inn in Crosthwaite aforesaid on Monday 22nd day of November 1858 at one o'clock in the afternoon pursuant to a notice duly given for that purpose of which the following is a copy.

Notice is hereby given that a Public Meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held at the Punch Bowl Inn Crosthwaite on Monday the 22nd day of November instant, at one o'clock in the afternoon for the purpose of renewing the Leases for the ensuing year, of the Township Allotment situated upon Whitbarrow, and the Quarries and Cottage, situated therein.

1st Resolved that William Turner - be and is hereby appointed Chairman of this Meeting

2nd Resolved that the eatage and depasturage of the Whitbarrow Allotments 649A and 666A including the Nuts growing thereon, also the Cottage House and Garden, and the Surplus Rock, and Limestone, Sand, Gravel and other Materials, be leased and let in accordance with Resolutions 2,3 4 and 6 passed at a Meeting of the Proprietors held on the 22nd day of November 1857 and herein before set forth.

3rd Resolved that William Bownass of Bowness, Windermere be, and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee of taker of the Eatage and Depasturage including the nuts growing thereon, in the Allotment No 666A at the rent of £38 10s for the term of one year to be computed from the 25th day of April next subject to and in accordance with Resolution No 3 as before stated.

4th Resolved that William Shaw of Raven Lodge Lyth be, and he is hereby declared to be the lessee or taker of the Allotment No 649A subject to and in accordance with Resolution 4 as before stated.

5th Resolved that John Wood and Robert Martindale both of Lyth be, and they are hereby declared to be the Lessees or Takers of all the surplus Rock and Limestone in the Allotment No 666A for the term of one year to be computed from the 22nd day of November instant at and for the Rent of fifteen ponds subject to and in accordance with the conditions bearing dated the 4th day of January 1858 and is therein set forth.

6th Resolved that James Strickland Junr be, and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or Taker of the Cottage, House, Garden and Nutwood belonging thereto situated - in the Allotment No 666A for the term of one year to be computed from the 12th day of May next at and for the rent of six pounds six shillings subject to and in accordance with the Conditions bearing date the 8th day of February 1858 and as therein set forth -

7th Resolved that the Molecatching within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth be let, and that such sum be taken from the rents of the several Allotments, herein before specified, as may be required for the yearly salary of such person as may be desirous of undertaking to destroy the Moles within the said Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth ---

At a meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth held at the Punch Bowl Inn, Crosthwaite aforesaid on Wednesday the 9th day of March 1859 at one o'clock in the afternoon to determine upon the propriety of leasing for one year the Allotment No 666A set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth aforesaid the following Resolutions.

Present Revd John Dixon, James Cartmell, James Burrow, William Garnett, John Cartmell, John Benson, Thomas Pearson,, William Prickett, Daniel Dickinson, Sharples Cartmell, Robert Daker, Joseph Burrow, John Dixon, William Turner and Thomas Black.

1 Resolved that the Revd John Dixon be and he is hereby appointed Chairman of this meeting.

Resolved that the Allotment No 666A aforesaid be leased for one year subject to and in accordance with the following conditions and reservations.

2 The Proprietors reserve to themselves the Cottage House and Gardens and also the whole of the Nutwood and Nuts growing thereon, also the liberty to get and quarry stones and materials for building and other purposes either for themselves or the tenants of the several Quarries and to take and carry away the same without being subject to damages for so doing.
3 The Proprietors also reserve all Game, Rabbits and other Wildfowl which may come or be provided therein.

4 The tenant shall not cut down any wood growing upon the said allotment nor underlet or assign over or part with the possession of the said allotment without consulting in writing from the Proprietors.

5 In case of the Death or bankruptcy of the tenant or should he assign over his effects and the said demised premises shall not devolve upon executors and investors or assigners or any other person without consent in writing from the lessors.

6 Resolved that John Hawkesly of Sawrey be and he is hereby declared to be the lessee or taker of eatage and depasturage of the Allotment No 666A situated upon Whitbarrow - subject to and in accordance with Resolution 2.3.4.5. for the term of one year to be computed from the 25th day of April next - at the rent of forty pounds - the rent to be due on the first day of June next and paid to the Credit of John Wakefield Esq at the bank of Wakefield Crewdson and Co. Kendal.

At a meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth held at the Punch Bowl Inn, in Crosthwaite aforesaid on Sunday the 19th day of April 1859 at three o'clock in the afternoon pursuant to a notice served upon the Proprietors of which the following is a copy -

I am requested to give you notice, that a Public Vestry meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held at the Punch Bowl Inn, in Crosthwaite aforesaid on Sunday the 19th day of April next at three o'clock in the afternoon for the following purposes.

1st To determine upon the Propriety of Leasing for one year the Game and Nuts within certain Allotments set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages Lands and Hereditaments within Crosthwaite and Lyth aforesaid.

2nd If the Meeting should determine so to dispose of the Game and Nuts, in the same Allotments, then to receive proposals from and enter into a contract with any person or persons willing to become such Lessee or Lessees.

3rd Resolved that Col. Frederick Gandy of Heaves Lodge in the Parish of Heversham be and he is hereby declared the taker or tenant of all the Game, Rabbits and Wildfowl in and upon the Allotment No 666A situated upon Whitbarrow aforesaid for the term of one year to be computed from the 25th day of April instant at the rent of eight pounds, the rent to be due on the first day of June next and paid to the credit of John Wakefield Esq at the bank of Wakefield, Crewdson and Co Kendal and that a lease be prepared forthwith in accordance with the above if required.

4th Resolved that James Strickland be and he is hereby declared to be the taker or tenant of the Nuts growing in and upon the Allotment No 666A situated upon Whitbarrow aforesaid for the term of one year at and for the rent of two pounds ten shillings to be paid to the Credit of John Wakefield Esq on the first day of June next at the bank of Wakefield, Crewdson and Co Kendal the Term to be computed from the 25th day of April next.

5th Resolved that Mr John Wakefield be and is hereby authorised to affix the Common Seal of the said Proprietors to the Lease to be made and prepared as aforesaid.

2nd Resolved that the Eatage and Depasturage and the Nuts growing thereon, together with the Cottage House and Gardens, also the Game, Rabbits and Wildfowl and right of Shooting in and upon certain allotments situated upon Whitbarrow and numbered in the ward plan 649A 655 and 666A set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within Crosthwaite and Lyth be leased for the term of one year subject to and in accordance with the conditions and reservations in Resolution 2 passed at the Meeting held on the 9th day of March 1859

Also the surplus Rock and Limestone, Sand, Gravel and other Materials in the aforesaid Allotments set out and awarded as aforesaid over and above what may from time to time be required and be sufficient for the use and consumption of the said Proprietors, be leased for one year subject to and in accordance with the conditions and reservations in Resolutions 4,5 and 6 passed at the Meeting held on the 22nd day of Nov 1859.

Resolved that John Hawkrigg of Sawrey in the Parish of Hawkshead be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or taker of the Eatage and Depasturage of the Allotment 666A situated upon Whitbarrow subject to and in accordance with Resolution 2 for the term of one year to be computed from the 25th day of April at the Rent of Forty Pounds, the rent to be due on the first day of June next and paid to the Credit of John Wakefield Esq at the Bank of Messrs Wakefield, Crewdson and Co Kendal.

Resolved that William Shaw - Raven Lodge Lyth be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or taker of the Eatage and Depasturage also the Limestone, Sand, Gravel and other Materials in the Allotment No 649A subject to and in accordance with Resolution 2 for the term of one year
To be computed from 25th day of April next at the rent of Fifteen Shillings the rent to be due on the first day of June next and paid to the Credit of John Wakefield at the Bank of Messrs Wakefield, Crewdson and Co Kendal.

Resolved that Col Frederick Gaudy of Heaves Lodge in the Parish of Heversham be and he is hereby declared the Tenant or taker of all Game, Rabbits and Wildfowl in and upon the Allotment No 666A with the power to kill and carry away the same for the term of one year to be computed from the 25th day of April at the Rent of eight pounds, the Rent to be due on the first day of June next and paid to the Credit of John Wakefield Esq at the Bank of Wakefield Crewdson and Co Kendal. The Tenancy to prosecute all Trespassers upon the said Allotment at his own expense as stated in Resolution 2 passed on the 29th day of April last.

Resolved that James Strickland be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or Taker of the Cottage House, Garden and Nutwood belonging thereto situated in the Allotment No 666A for the term of one year to be computed from the 12th day of May next, subject to and in accordance with resolution 2 for the Term of one year to be computed from the 12th day of May
next at and for the Rent of six pounds and six shillings, the Rent to be due on the first day of June next and paid to Credit of John Wakefield Esq at the Bank of Messrs Wakefield, Crewdson and Co Kendal.

Resolved that James Strickland Senr be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or Taker of the Nuts growing in and upon the Allotment 666A (except that part let with the Cottage House) for the term of one year to be computed from the 25th day of April next, subject to and in accordance with Resolution 2 at and for the rent of two pounds ten shillings to be due on the first day of June next and to be paid to the Credit of John Wakefield Esq at the Bank of Messrs Wakefield Crewdson Co Kendal.

Resolved that John Wood of Lyth be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or Taker of the Surplus Rock and Limestone in the Allotment No 666A for the Term of one year to be computed from the 22nd of November instant at and for the Rent of Fifteen Pounds subject to and in accordance with the condition bearing date the 4th day of January 1858 and as therein set forth.

Resolved that Leases in accordance with the aforesaid resolution be prepared if required, embodying such other Conditions as are usual in Leases of a similar nature and that John Wakefield Esq is hereby authorized and appointed to affix the Common Seal of the aforesaid Proprietors to the leases so made and prepared as aforesaid:-

Frederick Gaudy Esq Heaves Lodge being Lessee or Taker of the Game in the Allotment No 666A at the rent of £5 for the present year, but as he will not give more than £2 for the ensuing year, it is resolved that the right of shooting over the said Allotment be advertised to be let by Private Treaty and that William Garnett be and he is hereby authorized to receive tenders from any person desirous of becoming Lessee of the Game in the aforesaid Allotment.

I am requested to give you Notice that a Public Meeting of the proprietors of Messuages, lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite with Lyth, will be held at the Punch Bowl on Thursday 22nd day of November at one o'clock in the afternoon, for the following purposes:-

! To determine upon the propriety of Leasing for one year the Eatage and Depasturage of, and also the Surplus Rock, Limestone, Game, Cottage House and Garden within certain Allotments set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within Crosthwaite with Lyth aforesaid, over and above of what may then be deemed sufficient for the use and consumption of the said Proprietors, also to determine upon the propriety of selling the Coppice Wood now growing upon the same Allotments.

Resolved that John Wakefield Esq be and he is hereby appointed Chairman of this Meeting.

1 Resolved that The Eatage and Depasturage together with the Cottage House and Gardens, also the Game, Rabbits and Wildfowl and right of Shooting in and upon certain Allotments situated upon Whitbarrow and numbered in the Award Plan 649A 665 and 666A set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within Crosthwaite and Lyth be leased for the term of one year subject and in accordance with the conditions and reservations.

2 Also that the surplus Rock, Limestone, Sand, Gravel and other materials in the aforesaid Allotments, set out and awarded as aforesaid with the Conditions and Reservations in Resolution 4. 5. as passed at the Meeting of the proprietors held on the 22nd day of November 1859.

3 Resolved that the whole of the Coppice Wood now growing upon the Allotment No 649 in the Heversham Award situated at Whitescar on Whitbarrow. And also the Coppice Wood now growing upon the Allotment No 666A in the Heversham Award situated upon Whitbarrow. Aforesaid be sold subject to and in accordance with such conditions and reservations as in hereinafter be set forth.

4 Resolved that John Hawkrigg of Sawrey in the Parish of Hawkshead, Lancashire be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or Taker of the Eatage and Depasturage of the Allotment 666A upon Whitbarrow subject to and in accordance with Resolution 1, 2, 3, and 4 for one year to computed from the 25th day of April next at the rent of Forty Pounds, the rent to be due on the first day of June next and paid to the Credit of John Wakefield Esq at the bank of Messrs Wakefield, Crewdson and Co., Kendal.

5 Resolved that Frank Atkinson Argles Esq of Eversley, Milnthorpe, be and he is hereby declared to be Lessee or Tenant of all the Game, Rabbits and Wildfowl in and upon Allotment 666A with power to kill and carry away the same, for the Term of one year to be computed from the twenty fifth day of April next at the rent of four pounds. The rent to be due on the first day of June next and paid to the Credit of John Wakefield Esq at the Bank of Wakefield, Crewdson and Co., Kendal. The Tenant to prosecute all trespassers upon the said Allotment at the bill & con expense as stated in the Resolution 2 passed on the 19th day of April 1859.

6 Resolved that James Strickland Jun. be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee of taker of the Cottage, House and Gardens ------ belonging thereto situated in the Allotment No 666A for the term of one year to be computed from the 12th day of May next, at and for the rent of five pounds to be due on the first day of June next, to hold same subject to and in accordance with resolution 2 passed on the 22nd of November 1858, the rent to be due on the first day of June next.

7 Resolved that Thomas Clark of Witherslack be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or Tenant of the Eatage and Depasturage, also the surplus Limestone, Sand, Gravel and other Materials in the Allotment 649A subject to and in accordance with Resolution 2 passed on the 22nd day of Nov 1858 to hold the same for the term of one year to be computed from 25th day of April next at the rent of one pound ---------- the rent to be due on the first day of June next.

8 Resolved that George Moss of Row in Lyth be and he is hereby declared to be the Lessee or taker of the Surplus Rock and Limestone in the Allotment No 666A for the Term of and Year to be computed from the 22nd day of November Instant Fifteen Pounds and Ten shillings subject to and in accordance with the proposals and conditions for letting the same bearing date the 22nd day of November 1860 as follows;- the tenant shall permit and suffer the proprietors to quarry and remove all such Stones and materials as they may require for any of the purposes set forth in the Heversham Award and also when required so to do - to deliver to any of the Landowners such stones as they may require to be used within the Township to be delivered at the Quarry at the following prices, that is today, Quoins three feet long, nine pence per yard perpendicular measure, Quoins from one foot six inch to three feet long seven pence halfpenny per yard perpendicular measure and Lintels from four to five feet long and 15 inches wide to be charged 0/3 per lineal foot, Lintels from five and a half feet upwards, and 17 inches wide to be charged 0/4 per foot, Gateposts 2/6 each and flags 1/2 per foot. The Elterwater Company to have liberty to remove the Several Powder Runners now in the Quarries. For each Powder Runner or Bed Plate delivered to any person requiring the same and which shall not be used within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth, the tenant shall pay the sum of three guineas in addition to the yearly rent, and for every Powder Runner or Bed Plate required as above any person who may wish to get clefs and Quarry the same the tenant shall not charge a greater sum than one pound in addition to three guineas increased rent. At the end of the term the tenant shall remove out of the Allotment, and also out of the several Quarries situated therein, all Quoins, Lintels, Flags, Gateposts and other Stone of whatever name or description intended to be sold or delivered to any person requiring the same and which shall not be used within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth and for every 18 cubic feet of Quoin or other Stone removed after the expiration of the Lease, the tenant shall pay the sum of one pound in addition to the yearly rent.

The Rent to be due Quarterly, and the increased rents of any to be due upon demand, the first quarter rent to be due on entry, and each succeeding Quarters rent to be due on the first day in each quarter during the term and to be paid to John Wakefield at the Bank of Messrs Wakefield Crewdson and Co., Kendal.

At a Meeting of Proprietors of Messuages Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth, held at the Punchbowl Inn, Crosthwaite aforesaid on Tuesday the 22nd day of November 1861 at one o'clock in the afternoon pursuant to a Notice given of which the following is a copy -----
Notice is hereby given that a Meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Land and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held at the Punchbowl Inn Crosthwaite on Friday the 22nd day of November instant at 2 o'clock in the afternoon for the purpose of transferring the Leases of Whitbarrow Allotment and Quarries etc for the ensuing year.

Resolved that subject to a fair arrangement being made by the committee after mentioned with the present occupier of Whitbarrow Township Allotment, the South Eastern portion of that Allotment, included in a line drawn southward from the south west corner of William Turner's allotment to the Scar and in a curving line to the gate into Mr Wakefield's allotment, be planted for the benefit of the Township, out of any funds, from time to time, in hand, arising from Whitbarrow so far as the ground and present plantings and the quarries admit.

That William Turner, David Dickinson and William Garnett (churchwarden) be a committee for carrying out this arrangement and that they be authorized at once to set out and bid by tender or otherwise a proper wall for enclosing such plantation.

Notice is hereby given that the Meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held at the Punch Bowl Inn, Crosthwaite on Monday the 24th day of November instant at one o'clock in the afternoon for the purpose of Transferring over the Leases of the several Tenants of the Whitbarrow Allotments, Quarries etc for the ensuing year.

And it is further resolved that in consequence of a part of the land having been planted in the Allotment 666A and abatement from the original rent shall be made for the land so taken and that the tenant shall pay the rent of £32 for the ensuing year.
