The Eatage and Depasturage with all Game and Hares, Rabbits and Wildfowl on the High Quarry, situated in the Townend Division, was let to Frank A. Atkinson, for the sum of ten shillings per annum commencing on the 25th Day of April last and the rent to be due on the 12th Day of August in each year and to be paid to the Surveyor in the Townend Division for the time being.

It was unanimously agreed by the Proprietors that £10 per annum be granted out of Whitbarrow rents to a Surveyor or surveyors for the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth. The said Surveyor or surveyors to be appointed at the usual time in spring.

It was unanimously agreed that the eatage and depasturage of the great allotment be let to Hugh R Hudson, Fletcher Harrison, and their representatives for nine lunar months from 25th of September last at the rent of £60 payable the 25th March next subject to the present conditions of reserving all game, rabbits and wildfowl, also that the Cottage on Whitbarrow and nuts on allotment should be confirmed as relet to James Strickland at the sum of £7 . 10 rent with the same reservation, the quarries and right of selling stone away from the Township to George Neap at the rent of £10.10 rent with the same reservation and that the stage and shill and game right of the Whitescar and quarries to Mr Wm Farrer at the rent of £5.11 also.

That the exclusive right of killing and taking game and rabbits and wildfowl on the Township Allotment to confirm as relet to Mr F A Argles at the yearly rent of £16 payable 25th March.

It was also agreed that leases to the above effect should be signed if required by any of the parties at the lessee's expense.

It was also unanimously agreed that the account of receipts and payments on account of the above rents and profits up to March last as produced to the last meeting and since forwarded to the aforesaid Board should be allowed as carried by this Meeting.

It was proposed by Mr H Birkett and seconded by Mr Gibson that the net profits of the above mentioned property as from the last account be applied in the case of first, the Highway rated and next the poor rates of the whole Township.

Thereupon it was moved as an amendment by Mr Argles, seconded by Mr Burrow, that the said net profits be applied first in any Church rate, secondly any School rate, thirdly any Highway rate and fourthly any Poor rate during the current year since March last -

The amendment was supported by Mr Henry Gibson, Mr Argles and Mr Burrow and opposed by Messrs Gibson, Dixon, Strickland, William Pearson, Birkett. The amendment was thereupon carried by a large majority in value of the owners.

Notice is hereby given that a Vestry Meeting of the Inhabitants and Ratepayers of the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held at the Vestry Room of Crosthwaite on Thursday the 14th Day of December inst at ! o'clock in the afternoon for the purpose of making a Public Rate for the payment of all expenses connected with the Church and payable out of such rate in the current year commencing at Easter last.

And Notice given that a Public Vestry Meeting of Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments in the Township will be held at the same place at 2pm or immediately after the first Meeting above mentioned for the purpose of confirming or otherwise the resolution come to at their Meeting on the 22nd Nov with respecting the application of the Net rents and profits of the Whitbarrow Property belonging to them.

It was proposed by Mr Wilson seconded by Mr R F Burrow that the ratepayer today in the Church expenses be paid in the first out of net profits of the Whitbarrow Property and that the surplus be applied secondly in case of the road rates and thirdly of the poor rate.

It was thereupon proposed by Mr H Birkett seconded by Mr G Pearson as appointed by Mr Matthews, J Wallace, J Pearson, and Mr Pearson that the net profits be applied first in case of the Highway Rates and then by the Poor Rates. The following voted against the amendment Mr Argles, J Burn, J D Burrow, R F Burrow Rev E Wilson, H Martindale, Mr Martindale, Tobias Moon.

The amendment was refuted by a large majority and the original proposal carried.
It was proposed and carried unanimously that Mr J Burrow be continued as Manager of the Whitbarrow Property.

It was proposed by Mr R F Burrow seconded by Mr Wm Simpson that the several Tenants i.e. Mr Argles, Mr James Strickland, Mr George Moss and Mr Farrer should continue their several Tenancies at the same rents as heretofore for the next year ensuing, commencing in Spring 1884 and in accordance with a wish expressed by Messrs Hudson and Fletcher Harrison that their rent should be reduced. It was proposed by Mr R F Burrow and seconded by Mr John Burrow that the same Parties should continue as Lessees of Whitbarrow on the same terms as heretofore at the Annual Rent of 5 and 2/7 and this proportion was agreed to by Mr Fletcher Harrison in the presence of the aforesaid Meeting on behalf of himself and Mr Hudson - signed by Fletcher Harrison.

And in accordance with the second meeting called by the Churchwardens if all the Inhabitants and Ratepayers in Vestry assembled held at the same time and place for the purpose of making a public rate for the payment of the current year 's expenses, connected with the Church.

It was proposed by Mr John Martindale and seconded by Mr Edward Townson that a rate of one penny in the pound throughout the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth should be passed for the Church expenses and be paid out of the net profits taken out of Whitbarrow and that the surplus be applied in case of the Road Rates. Carried unanimously by the following gentlemen. Notice is hereby given that a Public Vestry Meeting of the Landowners and Ratepayers of the Parish of Crosthwaite & Lyth will be held at the Vestry Room in Crosthwaite on Thursday 13th Day of Novr 1884 at 2 o'clock in the Afternoon to consider a proposal by Mr F A Argles Esq for taking down and rebuilding on the same foundation or nearby so the present Tower of the Church of Crosthwaite & Lyth and for having the present bells recast, with an addition, so as to make a peal of six bells and to consider and if approved to adopt the plans and elevations produced by Mr J Bintley of Kendal, Architect for the above purposes, and also for any other purposes connected with the above.

The plans may be inspected at the Vicar 's house meanwhile.

And that as soon as the contracts have been accepted the requisite funds will be deposited by Mr Argles in the hands of the Vicar and Church Wardens.

At a Vestry Meeting of the Landowners and ratepayers as convened and holden pursuant to the above notice: the elevations of the Tower proposed and other particulars were produced and explained by Mr Bintley, the Architect and was unanimously highly approved by those present, i.e. E Wilson in the Chair, Messrs G Mason, Burrow, Simpson, Townson, Martindale, Dixon, Thornton, Barlow, Bentham, Inman, Thornburrow, James Wilson, and it was resolved that Mr Argles proposal be accepted with many thanks by the Meeting and its great regret that Mr Argles health did not permit him to be present, and that the work be proceeded with as soon as the specifications shall be approved by Mr Argles and the Committee and the Tenders accepted, weather permitting. It was also resolved that Mr Argles and his son, The Revd Canon Gilbert or the survivors of them be with the Vicar and Churchwardens of Crosthwaite a committee to superintend and manage the work and if necessary to replace the architect and anyone else employed. The committee to act by a majority of at least three quarters of their number in case of dispute. The committee may vote by proxy, Also Mr Argles proposal respecting the bells i.e. recasting the present three and making them into a peal of six be gratefully accepted.

It was proposed by Mr Thomas Gibson and seconded by Mr Burrow that any Whitbarrow stone required for the Rebuilding of the Tower be taken from Whitbarrow quarries and this was unanimously agreed to.

I am requested to give you notice that a Public Meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held at the Punch Bowl Inn in Crosthwaite aforesaid, on Monday 22nd Day of November at one o'clock in the Afternoon for the following purposes:-
1st To determine upon the propriety of Leasing for nine lunar months the Eatage and Depasturage of, and also all the surplus Rock and Limestone, and Game, Cottage House and Garden and Nuts, and Shilloe Quarry for one year, within certain Allotments set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within Crosthwaite and Lyth aforesaid over and above what may be then deemed sufficient for the use and consumption of the said Proprietors.
2nd If the the Meeting determine so to dispose of the Eatage and Depasturage, and also the surplus Rock and Limestone, Game, Cottage House, Garden and Nuts, the Shilloe Quarry of and in the same Allotments, then to receive proposals from and enter into contract with any person or persons willing to become such Lessee or Lessees

3rd Resolved that Mr FA Argles be and he is hereby appointed Chairman of this Meeting.
4th Resolved that the Eatage and Depasturage of the Township Allotment and Plantation of Crosthwaite with Lyth situated upon Whitbarrow and numbered upon the Award Plan 666a containing about 538 acres more or less be let for (SPACE) and renewed yearly until the expiration of 7 years subject to and in accordance with the following conditions and reservations and let so.
No offer having been received the Meeting was for this purpose adjourned to Friday 10th at 2 o'clock and that in future letting may be in November, for each year, for entry in the following October.
5th The Proprietors reserve the Cottage House, Garden, Fruit trees, Nutwood and Nuts growing on the aforesaid Allotment No 666a and let the same to Mr James Strickland at the same rent as before, £7 a year.
6th The Proprietors reserve all the Limestone Rock with liberty to get and Quarry stone and Materials for building and other purposes either for themselves or tenants in the several Quarries and to cart and carry away the same without being subject to any damages for so doing from off the Allotment No 666a and Let the right to Quarry for sale to Mr George Moss. For each Powder Runner or Bed Plate delivered to any person requiring the same and which shall not be used within the Township of Crosthwaite with Lyth, the person getting them shall pay the Proprietors the sum of Three Guineas in addition to the yearly Rent and for every Powder Runner or Bed Plate required as above by any person who may wish to get dress and Quarry the same, the Tenant shall not charge more than one pound in addition to the Three Guineas increased rent. At the end of the term the tenant shall be allowed one month to remove out of the Allotment and also out of the several Quarries situated thereon, all Quoins, Lintels, Flags, Gateposts or other stone intended to be sold or delivered to any person requiring the same and which shall not be used within the Township of Crosthwaite with Lyth, and for every ton of stone removed for sale out of the Township of Crosthwaite with Lyth after the expiration of the time given the tenant shall pay to the Proprietors the sum of one pound in addition to the yearly Rent.
7th The Proprietors reserve all the Larch trees and coppice wood growing upon the same Allotment with liberty to cut down, manufacture and cart away the said wood at any time from off the Allotment No 666a.
8th The Proprietors reserve all Game, Hares, Rabbits and Wildfowl which may be produced thereon with full liberty to hunt and shoot over all the aforesaid Allotment No 666a and let the same to Mr F. A. Argles at the old rent viz £16 a year.
9th The Tenant to pay the Tax and all parochial Rates and Assessments which may be imposed upon the same.

The tenant of the Cottage House and Garden and Nuts to enter on the Garden from the 25th Day of April and the House on the 12th Day of May 1886. The tenant of the Quarries to enter on from the day of letting the 22nd Day of November 1886.The taker of the Game, Hares, Rabbits and Wildfowl from the 25th Day of April 1887 and at the end or other sooner determination of the term to give up possession to the incoming tenants on the same dates.

The rents to be due on the first day of June in each year if demanded and to be paid to Mr John Burrow or the agent for the time being of the Proprietors.

Resolved that the Eatage and Depasturage with all Game, Hares, Rabbits and Wildfowl that may be produced thereon of the Township Allotment of Crosthwaite with Lyth situated at the White scar end of the shilloe quarry and numbered upon the Award Plan 649a containing about 29 acres more or less to be let for one year and renewed yearly until the expiration of seven years subject to and in accordance with the following conditions and reservations let to William Farrer Ecroyd Esq for the yearly rent of £5:11:0. The Proprietors reserve all trees and coppice wood growing thereon, with all the surplus Rock Sand and Shilloe with liberty to get stones for roads, Material, Sand and Shilloe and cart and carry away the same any time without being subject to any damages for so doing from the Allotment No 649a. The tenant to enter on Eatage and Depasturage with all Game from the 25th day of April 1887 and at the end or sooner determination of the term to give up possession to the Proprietors of their incoming tenants on the same date.
The rent to be due on the first day of June in each year if demanded and to be paid to Mr John Burrow or other the agent for the time being of the proprietors.

An Adjourned Public Vestry Meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth held at the Vestry Room in Crosthwaite on Friday the 10th Day of December 1886 at 2o'clock in the Afternoon pursuant to a Notice duly given.
Notice is hereby given that an adjourned Public Vestry Meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held in the Vestry Room in Crosthwaite on Friday the 10th Day of December 1886 at 2 o'clock in the Afternoon for the purpose of Letting the Eatage and Depasturage for nine lunar months on Whitbarrow Township and Allotment No 666a
Present at this adjourned Meeting Rev E Wilson in the Chair and the following gentlemen, Mr John Burrow, Mr John Barrow Jackson, Mr George Pearson, Mr George Taylor, Mr Joseph Shepherd and Mr Thomas Dixon - It was proposed by Mr George Pearson and seconded by Mr Burrow that in case Mr Dinsdale does not make any reasonable offer for the ensuing year, the Depasturage should be offered to Mr Argles at the annual rental of £34-0-0 and carried unanimously.

The adjourned meeting had also to consider the desirability of authorising the Proprietors agent, Mr Burrow to thin the Larch Trees on the enclosed portion in the Plantation on the Township Allotment No 666a in the spring of 1887.

It was proposed by Mr Thomas Dixon and seconded by Mr Pearson that Mr Burrow be authorised to thin the Plantation according to the preceding Notice and carried unanimously. It was also further agreed that Robert Dewhurst should have the Privilege of Cultivating for a Garden a Portion of what is called Mearsons Quarry at the annual Rental of £1 for the term of 7 years now ensuing, provided that he does nothing to interfere with the Road Surveyor obtaining Material for repairs of the Road.

Notice is hereby given that a Public Vestry Meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held in the Vestry Room, Crosthwaite on Thursday the 22nd day of November 1888 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon for the purpose of letting or renewing the several leases of Whitbarrow Township Allotment viz the Game, Quarries, Cottage House and Nuts for one year, the Eatage and Depasturage for nine Lunar months and making the orders relating to the disposal of the precedes and also to the desirability of cutting some Larch Trees and the coppice wood growing upon the Township Allotment situated upon Whitbarrow.

Present at the above Meeting Mr Burrow, Mr James D Burrow and the Rev E Wilson. In pursuance to the aforesaid Notice It was proposed by Mr Burrow and seconded by Mr Gibson that the several Tenants/ Mr Argles, Mr James Strickland, Mr Farrer Eckroyd and Mr George Moss should continue their several Tenancies at the same terms as heretofore for the next year ensuing commencing in spring 1890 excepting Mr George Moss, The Taker of the Quarries who commences this day the 22nd of November 1889. It was also further proposed by Mr Thos Gibson and seconded by Mr Joseph Simpson that the Larch Trees be marked for felling under the superintendence of Mr Burrow as heretofore and the Bark and Trees to be sold according to his best judgement.

That this meeting passed the resolution in favour of selling the piece of ground. E.W., seconded by Mr George Moss.

It was further proposed by Mr Gibson that Mr Eckroyd having requested to purchase a Piece of Ground behind Raven Lodge cottage at Whitescar End 1 Rood, 20 perches should be negotiated with: concerning the purchase of it and it was also further proposed that Mr Argles, Mr Burrow and the Chairman should be appointed as the Parish Committee to carry out the work and it was seconded by Mr George Moss, mem com and carried.

At a Public Vestry Meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth held at the Vestry Room in Crosthwaite on Wednesday 22nd Day of November 1893 at 2 o'clock in the Afternoon pursuant to a Notice given of which the following is a Copy.
I am requested to give you Notice that a Public Meeting of the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within the Township of Crosthwaite and Lyth will be held in the Vestry Room in Crosthwaite aforesaid, on Wednesday the 22nd Day of November 1893 at 2 o'clock in the Afternoon for the following purposes.
1st To determine upon the propriety of Leasing for nine Lunar months the Eatage and Depasturage of and all the surplus Rock and Limestone, and Game, Cottage House Garden and Nuts, and Shilloe Quarry for one year, within certain Allotments set out and awarded to the Proprietors of Messuages, Lands and Hereditaments within Crosthwaite with Lyth aforesaid over and above what may be deemed for the use and consumption of the said Proprietors.
2nd If the Meeting should determine so to dispose of the Eatage and Depasturage and also the Surplus Rock and Limestone, Game, Cottage House Garden and Nuts, the Shilloe Quarry of and in the same Allotments then to receive proposals from and enter into a contract with any person or persons willing to become such Lessee or Lessees

3rd Resolved that Mr John Burrow be and he is hereby appointed Chairman of this Meeting.
4th Resolved that the Eatage and Depasturage of the Township Allotment and Plantation of Crosthwaite with Lyth, situated upon Whitbarrow and numbered upon the Award Plan 666a containing 528 acres more or let be Let for or renewed yearly until the expiration of 7 years subject to and accordance with the following conditions and reservations and let to F.A. Argles at £34.0.0 a year.
5th The Proprietors reserve the Cottage House Garden and Fruit Trees, Nutwood and Nuts growing on the aforesaid Allotment No 666a and let the same to Mr James Strickland at the same tent as before £7 a year.
6th The Proprietors reserve all the Limestone, Rock with liberty to get and Quarry, stone and Material for Building and other purposes either for themselves or tenants in the several Quarries and to cart and carry the same away without being subject to any damages for so doing from off the Allotment No 666a and Let the right to Quarry for sale to George Moss for the sum of £5 a year.
For each Powder Runner or Bed Plate delivered to any person requiring the same and which shall not be used within the Township of Crosthwaite with Lyth, the Tenants getting them shall pay the Proprietors the sum of Three Guineas in addition to the yearly rent , and for every Powder Runner or Bed Plate required as above by any person who may wish to get, dress and Quarry the same, the tenant shall not charge more than one pound in addition to the Tree Guineas increased rent.
At the end of the term, the tenant shall be allowed one month to remove out of the Allotment and also out of the several Quarries situated thereon, all Quoins, Lintels and Flags, Gateposts or other stone intended to be sold or delivered to any person requiring the same and which shall not be used within the Township of Crosthwaite with Lyth, and for every Ton of Stone removed for sale out of the Township of Crosthwaite with Lyth, after the expiration of the time given, the tenant shall pay to the Proprietors the sum of one pound in addition to the yearly rent.
7th The Proprietors reserve all the Larch trees and Coppice woods growing upon the same Allotment with liberty to cut down, manufacture and cart away the said wood at any time from off the Allotment No 666a.
8th The Proprietors reserve all Game, Hares, Rabbits and Wildfowl which may be produced thereon with full liberty to hunt shoot all over the aforesaid Allotment No 666a and let the same to F.A. Argles for £16.0.0 a year.
9th The Tenant to pay all the Taxes and all parochial Rate and assessments which may be imposed upon the same. The tenant of the Cottage House Garden and Nuts to enter on the Garden from the 25th Day of April and the House on the 12th Day of May 1894.
The tenant of the Quarries to enter on from the day of Letting the 22nd Day of November 1893.
The taker of the Game, Hares, Rabbits and Wildfowl from the 25th Day of April 1894 and at the end or other sooner determination of the term to give up possession to their incoming tenants on the same dates.
The rents to be due on the first day of June in each year if demanded, and to be paid to Mr John Burrow or other the agent for the time being of the Proprietors.
Resolved that the Eatage and Depasturage with all Game, Hares, Rabbits and Wildfowl that may be produced thereon of the Township of Crosthwaite with Lyth situated at Whitescarend and the Shilloe Quarry and No upon the Award Plan 649a containing about 29 acres more or less to be let for one year and renewed yearly until the expiration of seven years subject to and in accordance with the following conditions and reservations let to W.F. Ecroyd at the same Rent as before £5.11.0 a year.
The Proprietors reserve all trees and coppice wood growing thereon , with all the surplus Rock, Sand and Shilloe , with liberty to get stones for the roads, Materials, Sand and Shilloe and cart and carry away the same at any time without being subject to any damages for so doing from the Allotment No 649a.
The tenant to enter on the Eatage and Depasturage with all Game from the 25th day of April 1894 and at the end or sooner determination of the term to give up possession to the Proprietors or their incoming tenant on the same date. The rent to be due on the first day of June in each year if demanded and to be paid to Mr John Burrow or other the Agent for the time being of the Proprietors.
Resolved that the Proprietors hereby agree that they will not cut down any of the trees growing on the enclosed portion of the Township land without the sanction of a Meeting of the Proprietors, specially convened for that purpose.
